Porte de France

pictures

description

brief description:

originally, another gate, the Porte de Bourgogne, stood directly across the Porte de France. But today, the Porte de France is the only remaining testimony of Longwys past. Impressive structure with vaulted passage way and drawbridge. On the facade which faces the open landscape, elaborate embellishments with war motifs set themselves apart from the slanted slate roof. This monumental gate is reminiscent of the homonymous Porte de France in Phalsbourg (Département Moselle), which was built at the same time.
