Wemmetsweiler town hall

description

brief description:

In 1921, the communities of Wemmetsweiler and Heiligenwald were merged to form the Bürgermeisterei of Wemmetsweiler. Since the newly formed community did not have an official representative administrative seat, a new town hall had to be built. Following a laborious financing process and lengthy approval procedures, the building was finished under the guidance of local architect Otto Eberbach and inaugurated on 02 october 1926. The neoclassical-style town hall was meant to reflect the newly formed community’s self-confidence. With its grand cupola, which can be seen from afar, the building has become the landmark symbol of Wemmetsweiler. It was the seat of the municipal administration until the territorial and administrative reform of 1973. Today, it only houses a part of the communal administration, a welfare center, and a restaurant.
